i said it was a juicy candidate, that's all, didn't mean that it was going to happen when we wake up on monday.
just remember Yahoo was willing to pay 5 billion dollars or so for Geocities and a few more billions for Broadcast.com if i remember correctly, and those companies had way way less revenues and fundamentals than ETrade.
everybody was astonished at the amounts Yahoo paid for those tiny companies at the time.
so anything can happen in this world.
i think we will see some sort of combination, whatever form it takes, with Yahoo sooner rather than later.
i prefer to talk about a "grand alliance" rather than an outright merger, because ETrade is probably too big a fish even for Yahoo to swallow.
to me, it looks like Softbank is slowly trying to build and put all the pieces of the online empire together (Morningstar, ELoan, Tradescape, Nasdaq Japan and Nasdaq Europe, Datek/Island?, etc).
there's a strategy behind all this, they don't seem to be "disconnnected" investments to me, they make more sense combined than separated.
too bad english is not my native language, otherwise i would be able to elaborate better on these ideas.
ok, i'm going back with my girlfriend now, see you later girls.
