cree...<VBG>

i copied this from a harvest post on yahoo, put up last night.
btw harvest knows far more about cree than i do.

In the Pru report were they linked Cree with Gentex's anouncement they said this about cell phones.

" We believe an even stronger driver(as compared to autos-Gentex) of the demand of SiC based LEDs will be hand held Web access appliances such as Web enabled cellular handset,Cree recently secured a design win in Nokia's 8850 phone.Cree's white light conversion LEDs are being used to backlight the new large screen required for viewing Web data.We believe SiC leds were chosen by Nokia because of the significantly smaller size of LEDs produced with this technology.Currently other white light producing technology such as sapphire are unable to match the size benefits of SiC.We estimate that the company will enjoy $1.00 in revenue from each of these phones produced.WE EXPECT CREE TO SECURE COMPARABLE WINS IN OTHER NOKIA'S MODELS AND FUTURE WEB ENABLED MODELS OF OTHER MAJOR CELLULAR HANDSET PRODUCERS.

The estimate is for 700 million units by calender year 2001.We think that over the next several years many phone models will utilize SiC LEDs resulting in a potentially significant upside for CREE".

gentex (GNTX) made an announcement friday about new lighting for american cars. apparently prudential thinks they will use cree SiC leds.
cree leds are already in vw and audi.
i do not have the complete prudential report...just excerpts. i will try to get it.

the most amazing part of this is that cree does not believe leds will be their biggest profit center. they account for 50% of current revs. the led margin is around 40-45% or so i have been told.
