Olympus Optical Eye-Trek - wearable

eye-trek.com

From more info! / FAQ:

Q: How large is the image EYE-TREK produces?
A: The two EYE-TREK displays have a screen size of only 0.55 inches. But thanks to the optical system developed by Olympus the image seems to be on a 52 inch screen seen from a distance of 2 meters.

I would like to get a look at the Eye-Trek, to see how the optics stack up against Kopin's optics. They use a free-shaped prism instead of traditional concave optics. There is a diagram of this under more info! / Technology. Very clever, these Japanese! The four times the brightness remark would be directed at systems such as the one from InViso.

Olympus uses a microdisplay from Colorado Micro Display. It will be interesting to see if this finds its way into an Olympus digital camera viewfinder.

Olympus Sports Wearable Computing

This could be a blessing in disguise. Imo, no one will make a dime from wearables until long after the bull market is over, with the possible exception of InfoCharms. They're taking the simple and cheap approach. IBM benefits from the hype even if they lose money; it helps build the image that they're developing the technology of the future.

True Kopin fans won't miss a beat over this.
