I've been a relatively long term holder of Cinram which is a leading global manufacturer of CD's. It has a long history of cassets...C/D's...and I purchased on the belief that it had a huge distribution channel in place to move into the DVD explosion. Lately the stock price has been off and about 45 days ago I sold. Since it's off another 20%. I didn't really figure why but...

Yesterday, I read that the hotly awaited launch of the recordable DVD and players had been delayed. Apparently MP3 technology opens up a whole new means of distribution. I hadn't thought about it but...here's the catch.

No more need for stores selling original DVD's. The new technology had encryption to ensure buyers paid before downloading. Apparently someone broke the encryption and the launch has been delayed for 6 months. Good for Cinram short term but perhaps with CIC ECC, downloadable paid for music and videos will be next. Any thoughts?
