X ,Of course you've hit the nail on the head here. We as top dogs on earth have failed in our assigned roll as stewards of this planet. The job of said stewardship is IMO to preserve the vast diversity of species which constitutes this most beautiful of mosaics being the bio system earth. Each species has taken millions [ if not hundreds of millions ] of years to evolve in such detail as to make it's most perfect integration into the whole. This means that every extinction no matter how small will diminish her beauty. It's unfortunate that most seem to think of over population in terms of how much can we exploit from the earth while still leaving enough for our children to exploit . They see the ideal as a vast sea of humanity and our domesticated animals with little islands of wildlife sprinkled about for us to gawk at. I predict the day will come when humanity comes to it's senses and will accept the concept of leaving something for the remaining species of earth. That these little islands of DNA will become invaluable tools for restocking the planet. That the inevitable two child family will not only be accepted as what's best for the earth but bring unexpected benefits to the family as well.
