I think the Datek/Island talks is evidence of a grand alliance already in place. Softbank, ETrade and Yahoo are not only working together, they are working towards implementing goals that are a stated feature of the Masayoshi Son 300 year plan. Etrade will not be easily acquired, I think. They are already supported by an 20-something-percent alliance with Softbank. Maybe a merger is more likely, or growth through further acquisitions? Anybody trying to buy ETrade would have to negotiate with the Masayoshi Son team. One thing's for sure, these guys know their Ben Franklin-junta stuff! It's all happening perfectly...
