I second Frank's request for a review of the current state of directory services.

If a web developer wants to design using generic object/directory services now, what is the default method of choice?

Whither LDAP, NDS, Microsoft Active Directory?

ietf.org
kingsmountain.com
ldapcentral.com

webapps.novell.com
novell.com

microsoft.com

Coalesence .vs. diversity?

What's up in this world?

Reginald, what's your take on this from the web developer POV? What does the NuoMedia system use for name/object/directory service? How do you define, instance, and locate NuoMedia objects?

What are the prospects for allowing scope A (MSFT AD) to inherit generic class information from scope B (NDS)?

What is the path toward pan-web object browsing, inheritance, access, transport?

What are the economic driving factors here?

20 years from now, how will all this wash out?

Gedanken experiment:

Suppose I create or inherit a class on, say, NuoMedia ... a "person" for example ... with properties "Name", "Address", "Phone", etc ... perhaps all I see of this as a user is that I enter someone's name and address within the NuoMedia environment.

How then do I write a NuoMedia app which allows me to browse or otherwise access objects of class "person"?

In what universe can I then write a VJ or even VB app that runs on my PC which browses/accesses objects within my NuoMedia scope?
