Howdy! Here's Something about GO in WORTH "The Future Of The Internet" November Newsstand Issue ... just typed out the excerpt fast 4U, and if worth.com has it in the archives it's a worthwhile read.
Note that Buena Vista Internet Group (BVIG was ticker, now defunct) is now Go.com (along with part of Infoseek) which wasn't ipo'd yet when this issue went to the printer (and wouldn't be surprised if looking under the heading of Buena Vista Internet Group still will yield some news from media not paying close attention to such small details only of interest to investors anyway)...
Here it is....
WORTH 11/99 "THE FUTURE OF THE INTERNET" Magazine .... (excerpt) from article
"Visions//The Internet In 2002/"
by Ed Susman and Lan N. Nguyen - * p. 163
(ed: - in which various internet players make predictions about "The Shape of Things To Come" - ed.)
25: WEB SITES AND TV CHANNELS WILL MERGE,
(Steve Wadsworth) - "There's going to be a much broader proliferation of devices and chanels for accessing Internet-based content. As a result, things will go in two directions. Either things will get dumbed down, as with small devices driven by data. Or you'll have other devices with broader capacity for technology, offering more robust, richer media. And you'll have broadband access to a TV through a high-speed cable modem that will allow you to integrate television viewing with your Internet browsing. The first step in that evolution will be creating Web-based content based on current on-air programming. The viewing experience will allow you to do both at the same time. One example is that we (at Disney's Buena Vista Internet Group) are preparing real-time Web programming, to go along with Monday-night and Sunday-night football programming, where you can play a game on the internet that's tied into what happens in the game (*see photo on page 161*). For example, pick the player who'll carry the ball on the next play, or get accesss to stats you want. One reason we're aggressively creating content that will allow you to combine the Web with television viewing is because if we didn't do it someobody else will. So we would rather be out there in front and ensure that we're using the media to enhance everything else we're doing.
(*photo on page 161*) (ed: - it looks like an etch-a-sketch with ergonomically designed edges, and the football game's on the the screen along with stats and what looks like a combination of Gameboy and the Bloomberg multi-screen design on the left. There are two control buttons on the frame of the gizmo, and it's got what looks like an embedded ball mouse on the right. Hope they won't forget about the lefties... - ed)
p. 161 photo caption: "BRING IT TO BED"
Internet tablets like this Intel -designed prototype will operate via a wireless household network (one computer serving several devices). In theory, a tablet would be as portable and easy to read as a magazine - except, perhaps, in the Jacuzzi. On the screen is Disney's vision of "Enhanced TV", which merges live action with Internet Information services, chats, and games.
(end)
So, they're sure not sitting on their hands, are they? Only thing missing on the minigizmo is the logo of Mickey. So what's the next logical move ....
