RE>>And committing murder in the name of God and never repenting of it is IMO evidence that one has no spiritual relationship with a good God. <<

Unfortunately you'll get hung for that one :-}

Paul before conversion was killing Christians even the stoning of Stephen and believed He was doing God service.

You may of course point out that it was prior to conversion but I would point out that God purposed for Paul to do exactly that as a part of His conversion and Stephen's glorification as a martyr. Both men were the better for the experience in the spiritual realm. However I'll take a row at the back of heaven before volunteering for stoning thanks anyway.

David , as a saved man both committed adultery and murdered Urriah and committed numerous sins of deceit and collaboration as one of the most famous men of God the world will likely ever see. Is it then impossible for men who are caught up in Zeal to put other men to death perhaps even wrongly?

This is also a VERY VERY big question I am about to ask concerning these things:

When did God give men the right to commit Idolatry?

Is it mans idea or is it true that men should have the political freedom of religion to be satanists?

At what point did God say it was alright for a nation to tolerate witchcraft?

Why did God approve and reward Jehu ?

2 Kings 10:19 Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal .

Jehu lied and pretended he wanted to worship the idol Baal so that he could destroy Idolaters and free Israel from sin. Was that wrong?

What did God think of it?

2Kings10:24 And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
25 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.

2Kings10:30 And the LORD said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.

Your concepts of religious freedoms may be coming from some source other than the Lord of Hosts ( armies )

RE>>I'd be interested in hearing what historical inaccuracies I've made<<

You have read about Calvin's hand in the execution of a man who believed slightly different things that he. Who told you the story that way? You can hear a completely different version from others. In fact many say this man was arrested before Calvin even took office. If you read Calvin's works instead of judging the way history is told you may find out just how dearly he loved the lord. Calvin was a devoted Christian who knew the Lord.
Luther stood before a council of the Roman Catholic Church and was ready to accept death rather than compromise those things he knew to be true. I do not think Luther hated Jews period. I think he hated the system that Jesus rebuked and called devils. I know his works were used of Hitler but let's not forget that satan used the Bible to attack Jesus. Luther did recant of the very strong and abusive manner in which he spoke to people when he was on trial and realized he spoke unlovingly a lot of the time. We are called to speak the truth "in love". many strong theologians are weak in that area and forget that we do not fight flesh and blood. It is unfortunate that many people fail to see the good that Luther accomplished because of what a maniac like Hitler did with his writings. Luther want the Judaisers oppressed for idolatry. Paul suggested their penises be cut completely off:

Galatians 5:11 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
12 I would they were even cut off which trouble you.

What else did Paul say about those who maintained the perverted "Gospel" ?
Of those who were mixing the Mosaic covenant with the New Covenant?

Galatians 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Same book same topic... Jews perverting the Gospel to the gentiles.

Accursed is to be damned to hell. That came from Paul. God's apostle to the gentiles.

These things are not cut and dry. Indeed they are hard to be understood.

Did you see the movie " The mission " ?

Which fellow would you have been :-}

I'll probably get a lot of flack for this post but God hates a coward :-}
