Paul and David both repented of the murders they were involved in.

Calvin never did.

Re. your suggestion that the story of the burning of Servetus happened somehow differently from the way I recounted it, I would welcome your providing any other sources sypporting that opinion. Servetus's story is told many places. I think it's pretty well established to have happened as I described.

I have seen several sources produced by Calvinists which are sympathetic to and defensive of Calvin. The only defenses of Calvin I've been able to find consist of the following:

- Servetus's execution was normal for the times. We modern people shouldn't judge by modern standards. I don't buy this.

- Servetus wrote pestering letters to Calvin. In other words, he deserved to be burned because he'd been a pest to Calvin. Wonder if people who buy this argument would give me an OK to kill some telemarketers or junk mailers?

- Servetus wouldn't recant. Stubbornness is no excuse for murder IMO.

- Calvin would have preferred to have had Servetus beheaded instead of burned. The fact that Calvin himself said this after the fact, I take as evidence he was embarrassed by his crime.

It is a well-established fact that Calvin was instrumental in the death of Servetus who was killed solely because of his religious beliefs. Servetus was only one of 58 executed during Calvin's period in Geneva. Because of his writings on medicine he is simply the best known to history.
