Carl, No way to tell. Just someone willing to sell 5000 shares at 5 3/4 and a market maker (probably Troster-Singer) willing to take it off their hands at that price. The quote at the time was 5 3/4 - 6 and had been that for over two hours. There were six MMs at 5 3/4 and one at 6. After the 5000 share sale, TSCO dropped off the bid, so he must have got what he wanted at that level. Typical market making and supply/demand activity. Anytime a sell goes through, the downward tick will reflect the change (ie 1/4 in this case) from the previous transaction, so price flunctuations will be back and forth at whatever the current bid/ask spread is. I zeroed in on your comment "drove the price down" because I watch these things all day and just wanted to clarify so no one thinks anything out of the ordinary is happening! That's all!
