Steve, at that point (derivative disasters) it will be too late. no amount of printing will help.
they know that, btw.
and...it's too late already. we're past the point of no return. the drama will simply play out now, no matter what the Fed does or doesn't do. they have left it too late...if they had stopped the bubble at Dow 6,000 the negative effects on the economy would have been negligible. now it is too late to do anything...sure, they can draw the moment of reckoning out a bit, but they can't avoid it anymore.
