A frightening prospect. I once went fishing with one of my kids, and we ended up staying till about 1:00AM. I hardly fished at all. There was this old guy there who just talked and talked forever. I just listened, hardly getting a word in edgewise. He was a WWII vet, spoke of his "small" role at Normandy, but mostly of his family. After we finally left, my son asked why I didn't try to leave earlier, that his mother would kill us when we got home, etc. I told him that that old guy had earned the right to speak to me as long as wished and that we both had a duty to listen. I didn't care if the guy had merely washed bottles. He served during a dangerous, an epic time, unlike at least one Arkansan politician I know of, who shall go nameless here in that he warrants not even the privelege of being mentioned by name while I speak of a real hero.
