bobby.. The internet is the stage after the light bulb, the radio, and then the TV. It's that important a milestone, I believe. Allow me to illustrate from something off topic.. but nonetheless relevant source.
Its not just the internet, its technology in general in areas like electric instrumentation, bandwidth, semiconductors, wireless communications equipment and services. Where would the net be without directing the constant and increasing flow of all this voice, video and data traffic on the net.. companies like QCOM JDSU, ETEK, VSAT, and CMVT.
I just got the Sound Advice insert from the Sunday paper. Sound Advice has hi-tech audio visual products 'to die for'. They have plasma technology high definition television that is 3 inches wide and you can hang it literally on the wall, not to mention superbly designed and clear (I was there this week) High Definition TV. And all these is taken one step further with the advent of Flash technology and superb software and other technology for multi media on the net.
Even my phone has a internet connection, voice messaging.. all this is interrelated to the internet because it makes it more attractive to consumers to see this new age technolgy and then companies like Sound Advice and Tweeter (two favorites of mine) go on net as did ZLC and everyone is a click away from viewing in the convenience of their home these awesome home theatre systems. The net would be nothing if there were not exciting technology that makes the net itself as valuable as the discovery of the TV, and we know that was not a fad.
o I feel the internet and its need for advanced technology is a wonderful situation where technology and internet have a healthy symbionic relationship. The net is here to stay just like the TV is here to stay. Of course there will be corrections just like you will catch colds and companies need to let the pressure out every once in a while, but the trend of the entire tech sector and its relationship with the internet is here to stay.
My only strategy however is to stick with the technology-type stocks like SCI, NSM, NSOL, BRYO, PHTN PROX,IONN, CSCO that feed off the desire for people to get connected yet they have products that are good in every aspect of our future. What was life like before the net? That's what my parents were saying 25 years ago: what was life like without tv? and their parents: What would life be like without the radio? |
