Bottomline Technologies Selected by the Public Health Institute; Bottomline's Paybase to Automate Payments for One of the Largest Public Health Organizations in the Nation

December 3, 1999 09:02 AM
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. and SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 3, 1999-- Bottomline Technologies(R) EPAY , a premier provider of Web-enabled billing, payment, and treasury management solutions, today announced that The Public Health Institute (PHI) has licensed PayBase. PHI selected Bottomline's eCommerce package as part of the organization's strategy to implement a highly scalable, secure disbursement system alongside its new Lawson financial package.

Prior to selecting Bottomline's software for organizational-wide disbursements, PHI used a variety of manual-based payment processing tools in a legacy environment. The old system became increasingly time-consuming and costly to operate, and could not migrate easily when the organization elected to install to Lawson's financials package.

"When we began the vendor selection process, I was aware of Bottomline's leadership position in the payment technology industry," remarked Gary Kopel, Director of Information Systems for The Public Health Institute. "From an IT standpoint and in terms of product design, Bottomline's was a far superior offering and delivered a greater value than any of the other vendors we tested. The software could easily handle corporate electronic payment formats, required no custom programming, and it offered excellent built-in security. Bottomline's technology, coupled with their industry track record, made them our vendor of choice."

"We're happy to work with The Public Health Institute to meet their payment technology needs," remarked Dan McGurl, president and CEO of Bottomline Technologies. "By using the eBusiness capabilities of our solution, PHI can easily to consolidate and manage its disbursements and non-financial data into one streamlined system. In addition, PayBase will support volume growth and additional electronic payment requirements as PHI grows."

About The Public Health Institute

The Public Health Institute (PHI) is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health, well-being and quality of life for people throughout California, across the nation and around the world. PHI promotes and sustains independent, innovative research, training and demonstration programs-many in collaboration with the private health care system and community-based organizations. PHI also serves as a partner with government to support its role in assessment, policy development and assurance. Since its inception in 1964, the organization has grown from a handful of epidemiologists and researchers working with the California Department of Health Services (CDHS) to one of the largest public health nonprofit agencies in the United States. Today PHI has an annual budget of $65 million and a staff of nearly 550, including more than 100 researchers, community specialists, and project directors conducting approximately 400 projects funded by state and federal government and private foundations.
