HYSQ----> Chips for DNA discovery... also website for gene discovery.

HYSQ applies the proprietary DNA array technology of its integrated HyX genomics
platform to develop gene-based therapeutic product candidates and diagnostic products
and tests. For the six months ended 6/30/99, revenues decreased 29% to $3.8 million.
Net loss increased 38% to $9.1 million. Revenues reflect lower revenues earned in
conjunction with the Co's research collaboration with Chiron. Higher loss reflects higher
R&D expenses due to additional personnel.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyseq, Inc. (Nasdaq: HYSQ -
news) today announced that its newly launched website, GeneSolutions.com,
provides researchers access to results from over 12 million DNA samples analyzed by
Hyseq. In processing this large number of DNA samples, the Company
believes it has found almost all of the 150,000 human genes that Hyseq scientists
estimated to exist in a presentation made at Cold Spring Harbor back in 1993. The
Hyseq information and data will be added over time to GeneSolutions.com and will be
available on a point-and-click basis or from Hyseq for collaboration or
partnering. The new website can be accessed at www.genesolutions.com.

''Approximately 40% of the gene sequence that we have found is not in the patent and
other public databases,'' said Lewis S. Gruber, President and Chief Executive
Officer at Hyseq. ''Of the novel gene sequences, over 10,000 represent rare genes.''
