Actually, Dan, the legislation in your citation doesn't say beans about clear cutting - you said that. Further, this is a very serious matter involving a lot of common sense that has been ignored or opposed by environmental groups.

I know for a fact, forests in the Lake Tahoe basin have been a tinder-box for years due to a huge number of dead and dying trees.

Strangely enough (to me) some people would rather leave the diseased tree to affect its neighbors - let it subject the entire forest to unnecessary fire danger and eventually rot in place.

These sick trees, if harvested in a responsible and timely manner will benefit the remaining forest and build a hell of a lot of habitat for humanity houses. Why cut down a healthy tree, when you've got a dead one that will do?
