just look at short sellers for the good they do. they provide liquidity to the market. they (we) just make money going the opposite direction. small retail shorts don't do a whole heck of a lot to influence price as the vast majority of people trade from the long side. retail investors definitly trade long in vastly superior numbers than short. market makers are big shorts. they can influence price. they sell into strength and buy when prices fall. watching level two can often reveal who the big shorts are. they don't buy before they short. that would be backwards. i trade from the long and short side. both are profitable. short profits tend to come faster but i always feel more safe and secure from the long side. i hold no position in PLMD but if i did, it would probably be long. i have traded it nicely a few times early this year.
