Capitalism and communism are both nurtured by people who don't have enough. Capitalism's underpinning is envy and communism's is resentment.

Some (esp. those who would exploit) argue that communism is driven more by desperation than resentment. I disagree. I think truly desperate people with a modicum of initiative and self worth become crooks and such.

Communism isn't going away anytime soon. Intellectual elites, naive idealists, and a wide assortment of types who would use it as a means to power will keep the embers aglow and blaze up from time to time.

You could say the same about labor unions, environmentalists and the Knights of Columbus, I suppose. What do I know -- I didn't want to ignore your question and appear impolite.
