Spacelabs Medical Announces the Launch of Lifeclinic.com
REDMOND, Wash.--(BW HealthWire)--Dec. 6, 1999--Spacelabs Medical, Inc. (Nasdaq:SLMD - news) announced today the launch of Lifeclinic.com(TM), a hypertension-focused Internet web site.
Lifeclinic.com will help consumers benefit from the Company's more than 10,000 vital-signs monitoring kiosks that measure blood pressure and other vital signs that are important to track when managing hypertension. These kiosks are located in pharmacies and other retail locations across the United States and take over 200 million readings for 3 million unique users each year.
Lifeclinic.com provides consumers with a resource to help manage their healthcare. The site offers health education focused on hypertension and related topics such as smoking cessation, weight control and stress management. Visitors to the site can find a vital-signs kiosk near their home or shop on-line for items related to blood-pressure management. A daily news service provides current articles about health-related topics. Membership to the site is free and includes a health charting function to track blood pressure, weight and pulse over time. The Company plans to add new features to the charting function as well as new channels for other health conditions related to blood pressure such as hypertension associated with kidney failure or pregnancy.
Approximately 50 million people in the United States suffer from high blood pressure or hypertension more than any other disease. The management of hypertension is critical as high blood pressure can lead to heart disease, stroke, and cardiovascular and kidney failure, among other complications.
