Policy: If you've ever worked with governments or tried to break new ground, enough cannot be said for policy. The purpose of policy is to stake claim to territory, open doors, and save your ass in the event someone wants it.
What Messagemedia is doing, with its policy on Spam, is preempting confrontation with the lunatic fringe and protecting our investment. Recall Scruggs' comment the "dark side of email", well, any bulk email company that fails to develop a policy and adhere to it will be short lived.
Messagemedia has set forth a sustained 50% increase in revenues per quarter for the next year and it's policy that will allow it achieve that goal.
Messagemedia has some interesting reading on bulk emailing, white papers, etc. that you might want to take a look at while you are waiting for the sleeper to awaken. messagemedia.com
For one, Did you know RealNetworks got its butt caught in a blackhole earlier this year because it didn't have a policy or neglected to follow it. Thirty some percent of their mail got bounced as a result.
Jim Cramer, of The Street.com fame, says he uses Kana but he also suggested their system goes down. Could this be due bounced mail? thestreet.com
Anyway, it is policy that helps you through these kinds of trouble.
Recall, I mentioned receiving email from Messagemedia concerning shopping at Yahoo! #reply-12137124. I checked the IP address with the blackhole and it wasn't on the list. Although this is not to say they are free of the blackhole on all its servers, it does increase my comfort level.
In closing, I believe strong e-sales this holiday will give Messagemedia the support it needs to develop a policy acceptable to governments and that will keep the lunatic fringe at bay, if not diminished. As and added benefit, the policy they are implementing will work to reduce competition because smaller companies will not be able to recover all their costs; ie, it's an economies of scale thing.
More later on economies of scale. |
