Agreed, the concept has some wheels. I understand your point of view better now that you have elaborated.

Something to ponder: does an application such as this (i.e. FPGAs_R_us.com) introduce a new class of service that heretofore has been ignored? Or would you say that it falls in the category of "(Burst-mode) real-time variable-bit-rate," or rt-VBR using the ITU designation?

There's a large variation in the amount of data transferred for different operations, e.g. consecutive zooms that you expect instantaneous redraw; dragging an object with rubberbanding, versus just adding an interconnect line or pulling up a library block.

It would seem there's a lot that could be done if such systems were designed from the ground up as an "across a WAN" application, rather than bolting a "java abstraction layer" on something designed to be used as a stand-alone dedicated app, or worst case a tight cluster on a dedicated subnet. Comments?
