Are you referring to the generalized distributed rendering problem? The bandwidth requirements of a distributed logic design package are certainly not in a new class ... the requirements are shared by many applications: architecture, bio-chem, and lots of other 2D/3D visualization applications.

The available solutions are distinguished by how much intelligence about the model are pushed out to the distal display nodes ... where the server process talks to the remote display process in some symbolic display language. The same design issues are found in many different types of rendering situations: printers, PC displays, across networks.

- none
- raster (bitmap)
- 2D vector (e.g., Postscript, HPPCL, etc)
- 3D vector, polygon (generalized polygon displays)
- API type systems (OpenGL, DirectX, Windows GDI)
- various "generic" object systems (HTML, XML, VRML, Java)
- model-specific (display process understands the model)

Is that what you meant? Or did I wander away?
