There are other V.34bis (33.6Kb) modems on the market, and the market will become flooded with "crap" modems soon with the introduction of the Rockwell V.34bis chipset. This is not saying that the Rockwell chipset is "crap" (I have not seen one yet), just that this will give the commodity modems the ability to wire one together and throw it on the street.

Poor quality modems only support USR though. For roughly the same amount of money they can buy a USR, it is too bad they have to go through some of the cheapo modems first.

I have several USR modems - Sportsters, Couriers, voice modems - I purchased one of the sporties with the V.34 chipset and upgraded the ROM to the V.34bis chipset. All of them work great.
