Interesting thread idea. Thanks.

Just prior to finding this new SI subject I was reading a white paper by a new storage company that has been largely funded(80%) by IIS Intelligent Information Systems(IISLF). The paper seems to outline a strategy for managing storage not in the servers to which they are attached, but in the controller at the storage device. So, it is essentially taking over the role of the server - hence, one could call this a thin server itself. Here's the URL:
