Bill--What do you do with Piltdown Man and Archaeopytrx forgeries? Piltdown Man was displayed for 50 years as the missing link between Ape and man. Archaeoptyrx was used to establish the link between birds and reptiles. Both were conclusively proven to be forgeries...but only after the evolutionary hypothesis had already been established. The acceptance and scientific validity of the evolutionary hypothesis was anchored upon this two forgeries. Before Piltdown Man and Archaeoptyrx, the evolutionary hypothesis was rejected by most scientist.
