I hear you on solving network problems at the network level. I've ordered a Netopia r9100 and plan to replace my linksys hub with the hub feature of the 9100. The firewall makes it a little cosier also.

I had thought about getting one of those 3com usb net adapters to maybe finesse the irq thingy ... but eventually decided to just push the net issue back out to the net level and be done. At @$400 the pain wasn't so bad.

Thanks for the reality check.
