Bruce & thread...

Yet look what happened to the investors who paid $10K to the little girls and did nothing but held.

If you throw $10K at little girls, you may need your newfound millions to stay out of jail! <g>

More seriously, excellent discussion overnight. My thanks to Cosmo, Tekboy, UF and Gdichaz for their insight, and of course to the large-lunged Bruce Brown. What a great thread!

My view:

1. the benefits to the thread of staying focussed outweigh the downsides of missed greater profits in the small caps that we label as shiny pebbles.

2. I agree that nailing the correct shiny pebble early on, leads to greater compounded returns downstream. I'm in JDSU now, and practically the last one to do so. So I expect some nice returns over the next 5 years, but will not achieve the spectacular results of those who got in during the summer or earlier. And that is of a King; nevermind Unclewest who was in ARMHY, and remains in CREE. They have already done very well, and should they ascend to gorilla or king status, their earlier investment of faith and money will return untold zillions. Of course, the downside of shiny pebbles is if one chooses incorrectly, such as my investments in Rambus, which I note on the G & K WW list is the biggest loser. I didn't lose money there, but I did lose opportunity.

3. So, I agree with Cosmo and Gdichaz in terms of greater potential gains in pre-gorillas and pre-kings. But for purposes of the thread, I support staying narrow and focussed.

4. I also think that one of the unstated reasons to bring forward the shiny pebbles for consideration, is because folks want to know what 'we' think. Apart from G & K expertise, people simply want to know how a thread with the collective aptitude of this one views a particular shiny pebble. Bottom line, part of what makes this thread so useful is the focus of talent on a narrow path of deliberation (thank you UF, LB & Merlin). Part of what makes this a superlative thread is the collective expertise, experience and IQ (thank you Lucius Lamar, Gdichaz, Bruce Brown, StockeHawk, Tom A., Downsouth, Chaz, and many others too numerous to mention, including the newcomers).

It's a privilege.

PS: Question to the thread....is it possible that nearly every shiny pebble will do well, because we are in a once-in-a-century period of transition, to this outrageous Internet/Information economy?. IOWs, you can pretty well throw money at just about anything that is "internet-enabling" and do fairly well? Is it that people's investment in I2 represents brilliant investment acumen, or is it that the tsunami of the Internet lifts all boats?
