DataMirror(R) Announces Open Replication Solution For PointBase
100% Pure Java DataBase
8:33 EST Tuesday, December 7, 1999

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK--

JAVA BUSINESS EXPO, BOOTH 1029

DataMirror Provides e-Business Data Integration From Mainframes to Mobiles

DataMirror Corporation (TSE: DMC), today announces and demonstrates Transformation Server for PointBase, business
data integration software that lets customers replicate and transform data to and from PointBase databases. PointBase is a
small-footprint, scalable relational database written entirely in Java that runs on any Java Virtual Machine. PointBase can
be installed on servers, Internet appliances and wireless mobile devices, making it ideal for the full spectrum of
server-based e-commerce and Web-based mobile workforce applications.

The market for technology that can integrate business data with mobile access devices like PDAs and Internet appliances
is growing rapidly. At the Gartner Symposium Conference in October, GartnerGroup analyst Van Baker predicted that
these types of mass access devices will exceed the number of personal computers by 2002. With the introduction of
Transformation Server for PointBase, DataMirror is well positioned to address the strong emerging market for wired and
wireless mass access devices.

Transformation Server for PointBase is a pure Java product that seamlessly integrates business data between PointBase
databases and enterprise data stores on a variety of platforms including Microsoft Windows NT, UNIX, Linux, IBM
AS/400 and OS/390. By further broadening its proven business data integration technology to include mobile data,
DataMirror's open solution set will help companies accelerate their dot-com and mobile initiatives as they rush to dot-com
business models. Transformation Server for PointBase will be generally available on January 31st, 2000.

"In the Internet era, smart cards, digital telephones, set-top boxes, Internet appliances and mobile devices will be
networked and will contain small-footprint databases like PointBase. The emergence and early success of PointBase has
helped pave the way for the widespread deployment of both wired and wireless mass access devices," said Nigel Stokes,
Chairman, President and CEO of DataMirror Corporation. "The next challenge is how to rapidly integrate
PointBase-equipped Internet devices with existing dot-com applications, enterprise data and legacy systems. The answer
is Transformation Server for PointBase. Synchronizing, managing and monitoring a complex replication network spanning
mainframes to mobiles has never been easier."

Full Transformation Server publisher and subscriber functionality is provided through DataMirror's Enterprise
Administrator, a Java-based graphical user interface for easily configuring and managing replication across all supported
systems. Enterprise Administrator utilizes the portability of Java to enable complete platform independence. Because
Enterprise Administrator is now 100% web ready, it allows users to easily manage their replication infrastructure from any
Internet browser with access to the network. Administrators now have the flexibility to manage and monitor the entire
replication environment while working off-site or even from home.
