Paul - RE: "Why are you dredging up the Pentium II ?" When the .35 PII came out, it probably consumed too much power or was too hot for notebooks. Just like the .25 Athlon. If you don't see a proper analogy of the current Athlon to the original PII you are obviously ignoring it. "Mobile Coppermines were introduced SIMULTANEOUSLY - that means AT THE SAME TIME - as the COPPERMINE" Because they all came out on the .18 process. Athlon and PII came out on a process which had to be reduced for processor to become a mobile chip.
