Because of the desperate mood of the gold bugs, y2k represents the best of the last hopes for the metal. Jan 1,2,3,4,5 will determine the extend of the millenium bug. If we are still here crowing about the deplorable situation of the gold market on Jan 5, 1999, we will know that the y2k issue is a bust. But alas even then, there will be speculation that the system is down but that the government is making it work to keep the economy going.
