GPRS is not the same or similar as EDGE, as you imply.

GPRS is a transitional technology, offering around 9.6kpbs per timeslot. Higher data rates are achieved by combining timeslots.
EDGE offers much higher data rates (comparable to HDR) by using a different modulation scheme.
