That Jewish imagination for honourable violence could not have been enkindled similarly to that of the Catholic Scots, this because of a "lull" between 70 A.D. and 1948, is a point I well understand but do not accept. Firstly, I think the defense of honour and sacredness are nearly archetypal sentiments, and so I also think nearly any theist could have effectively extolled them. Secondly, I think for Jews no true lull existed between 70 A.D. and 1948. Dear me, no. We cannot view 1948 as an isolated event in Jewish history. The Jewish experience, even oppression, leading up to that time presented the environment necessary to develop Jewish imagination and thirst for conquest. This, coupled with the tradition of conquest given them by Jewish patriarchs beginning with Abraham, made 1948 possible. They had the history. Indeed more so than any Christian group.
