I find Mr. Silverman's analysis to be the most compelling thus far as to explaining the insider sales. Knowing the ML/MS sales where coming, I would have done it myself.
I do not agree that insider sales are necessarily a "very bad sign". Again, insider sales are a common occurance among companies on a daily basis and the reasons cannot usually be fathomed with any real certainty. No one likes to see insider sales but, the truth is, many reasons exist for insider sales which may have nothing to do with the company situation to which the insider belongs. This is not true, of course, for insider buys... those are usually made to make money. I recieve a publication called "daily graphs" which lists such information and I have had difficulty correllating insider sales with subsequent declines in a reasonable majority of instances. Insider buys of reasonable quantity do seem predictive in many cases. As Mr. Silverman points out, these sales occured before the MS/ML sales and I would not be surprised to see these insiders buying back today.
An additional consideration is the fact that the FDA has worked closely with IDEC on this matter and I would be surprised to see that, suddenly, at this time there were to surface some sort of problem.
