Rudedog,

SUNW's current marketshare of the Web-server market: 72%

More than 72% of web traffic goes through SUNW servers. You
can't compare tiny PC's running against SMP Ultras on the web.
You know better than to do that. Sears & Roebuck sells more
hammers than Caterpiller sells pile drivers so that means
Sears has a larger share of the pounding machine-tools market?
That's total nonsense and you know it.

SUNW makes a qualitatively different computer than CPQ's PC
line. Start talking about how many CPQ ALPHA's have been sold
as web servers as compared to SUNW's web servers and we'll have
a discussion.

For some strange reason, the Wintel group keeps wanting to
compare PC's with REAL enterprise equipment. It's been that
way for many many years now. The PC is an enterprise wannabe
and that's as far as it goes. I don't believe that I need to
go back and explain it all to you again.

It seems like everyone around here is getting into the e-commerce
business. I talked to a trainer at my gym who is into his own
e-commerce brick-and-mortar replacement company. I asked him
about his web servers. He said he wasn't a tech, but he knew
that they had called in Sun Microsystems to "do their networking
stuff". I asked him why they called in Sun. He said "They're
the standard aren't they???"

Number of current competitors to SUNW in the web-server market: 2

Is this a jab at CPQ & DELL??? Yes, it is. I don't consider them
to be in the same market, so they don't compete with SUNW for
the internet market. Show me a computer these guys make that
will compete with SUNW and we'll talk about it. I like the Alpha,
but what is a screwdriver company like CPQ going to do with it???

Estimated revenue for SUNW from sale of 10,000 E-10K's: $10 billion

Simple arithmetic, Rudedog. Each Starfire is $1million a pop, not
including storage, consulting, and maintenance costs. That's for
the single domain version, I believe. Upgrades for multi-domain
models cost even more.

These are HIGH margin machines and Sun is selling them like popcorn.
The more companies go on-line, the more Starfires are sold.
