The real winner in the AT&T deal
Broadcom (BRCM)
just keeps crankin' 'em out. New products that is. On Dec. 6, the company announced what it billed as the first complete digital-analog radio frequency (RF) television tuner in the CMOS chip technology. I don't care much about the "first" in this announcement, but I am impressed that earlier cost estimates suggest that the tuner on the Broadcom chip, the BCM3400, will perform a job that now takes about 200 chips on a circuit card. That should cut the cost of a tuner to about $5 from $10 to $15 now. The small size of the tuner would also make it possible to put two tuners on a single chip -- just what a TV that's also an Internet receiver needs. In typical Broadcom fashion, the announcement comes just days before the TV industry's next big trade show in Los Angeles. I'm raising my target price on Broadcom as of Dec. 7, 1999 to $281 by December 2000. (Full disclosure: I own shares of Broadcom.)

If the NAZ is + on the open tomorrow looks like it may be time to hop into some BRCM calls
