Wheaton River Minerals Ltd. - Access to Golden Bear
Resumes

TORONTO, ONTARIO--Wheaton River Minerals Ltd. and North American
Metals Corp. announce that access to the Golden Bear mine in
northwestern British Columbia has been reinstated after
discussions with the Tahltan First Nation based in nearby
Telegraph Creek. A road restriction was lifted by the Tahltan
First Nation.

Wheaton River, North American Metals and the Tahltan First Nation
have agreed that an independent environmental assessment of the
mining operation will be undertaken immediately. The parties will
also negotiate a package of other issues including ongoing
environmental monitoring, employment, training and contracting
opportunities at the site.

The Companies would like to acknowledge the efforts of Intertec
Resource Consultants in settling this matter.

Mining at the Golden Bear project is expected to begin in May and
heap leach gold production is scheduled to commence in September.
