The Talisman/Sudan debate has reached Sweden, "the oil companies are fueling the war in Sudan". Even the fact that the pipeline was built by Chinese convicts is held against Lundin Oil! It's totally insane, but I think the worst is behind us.

U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright praised John Garang as "sophisticated and dynamic" after meeting him in Nairobi in October.
See what U.S. Department of State has to say about Garang's SPLA guerilla in the Sudan Country Report:

..."SPLA was responsible for extrajudicial killings, beatings, arbitrary detention, forced conscription, slavery and occasional arrests of foreign relief workers without charge."
(Full report: state.gov )
You could expect such words to come from the Ministry of Propaganda in Khartoum, but the source is actually U.S. Department of State...

Hmm, if slavery is sophisticated, well, then Albright may have a point. Garang must be a very sophisticated man indeed.
