My feeling is that hybrids will likely be leap-frogged by fuel cells. From what I have learned about hybrids they are inherently complicated with two drive systems and it will be quite difficult to bring their costs down to a level close to IC engine because of this. Fuel cells are simple, low maintenance and could possibly be made for less than ICE's. Nobody really mentions that Toyota is selling the Prius for 1/3 of what they cost to make so is losing money on every car. I believe some subsidy will be needed for FC's in the early days but think they will realize better economies of scale in mfg.

I think BTIM was also inferring a similar view on MF when he talked about Daimler's (and Ford's) silence on the topic of hybrids.

Regards
