I recently heard about a new search engine called WebHelp.Com. The basic premise of this search engine is "is to become the global leader in bringing the human element to cyberspace, helping to remove the barriers to browsing, buying, and searching online, and to enable Web sites as e-commerce gateways to make them profitable businesses in the new economy."
That being said, they have an excellent combination of flash technology, java and human interaction on their website. The search engine is a lot like an interactive chat room - you type the question in plain english (e.g. how do I write the Pope?) and voila, the assistant on the other end of the connection provides you with web sites matching your question. It's quite unique.
Now, many of you may be familiar with this service, until tonight, I was not. I believe that this represents a significant step towards bridging the gap for a lot of people and the internet - humanized search engines (a step beyond Ask Jeeves, IMHO).
Now the reason I bring this forward is that this company was just recently launched (November 30 was their go live date) and it is my understanding that they are in line to go public at some point in the next few months. I am curious if anyone else has heard this rumour and if you have been able to acquire any confirmation.
Regardless, I encourage you to visit their site for a trial run - I think this is a very interesting model. webhelp.com
