This headline got lost in all the VISX centric activity. It is fairly significant and adds greatly to BEAM's equity value. Summit Technology's Autonomous Unit Receives New Patent WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 1999--Summit Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAM) said today that on November 9, 1999 its Autonomous Technologies subsidiary was issued U.S. Patent No. 5,980,513 entitled Laser Beam Delivery and Eye Tracking System. "We believe this to be a fundamental patent in the area of narrow beam shot placement and we are very pleased with the claims that the patent office allowed," said Randy Frey, President of Autonomous. "Our goal is to be the technology leader in the laser vision correction industry and issuance of this patent evidences our continued strength in this area," Frey concluded.
