I don't think I have seen single head drives in the distributor market but I think they would appear first in the OEM market.

Maxtor's new line of drives come in 10, 20, 30 & 40 gb sizes. If a manufacturer of low priced computers asked Maxtor for prices on a 5 gb drive, Maxtor would probably offer a one head drive. I do not think there is much market for 5 gb drives because only a few drives that small are offered by the distributors I am watching.

I think the drive manufacturers are clearly thinking higher capacity drives are becoming more popular. That is what they are building.

Regards,
Mark
