Worldwide 4th-Quarter PC Shipment Forecast Cut to 17% by Intl Data Corp. "IDC blamed the lower forecast on a slowdown in corporate PC purchases because of the Year 2000 date change and a shortage of components after an earthquake in Taiwan in late September. Several PC makers, including Dell Computer Corp., have blamed the earthquake for crimping profits."
