Mannesmann's Esser rebuffs call from Vodafone -WSJ NEW YORK, Dec 8 (Reuters) - Mannesmann AG's (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: MMNG.F) chief executive Klaus Esser on Tuesday rebuffed a personal overture from Vodafone AirTouch Plc (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: VOD.L) Chief Executive Chris Gent, who called Esser on Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal said. During a brief but polite phone call from Gent, who has been looking to negotiate for a friendly deal between the two mobile phone groups, the Mannesmann chief reiterated that shareholders support the opposition of Vodafone's offer, the report said. The report cited people familiar with the situation. Esser has been on a week-long tour to convince shareholders to reject the offer, now valued at about 278.7 euros per share
