"Ericsson, Microsoft to Create Wireless Internet Joint Venture

Stockholm, Dec. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Ericsson AB, the world's third-largest maker of cellular phones, and Microsoft Corp., the biggest software maker, said they will form an alliance to develop products that let users access the Internet on the go.

Ericsson will own the majority share of the joint venture. No other terms were disclosed. The Stockholm-based company said it will use Microsoft's Mobile Explorer for some phones.

Phone, software and Internet companies are turning their focus to mobile data products that hook up to corporate networks and the Internet. Microsoft has already teamed up with British Telecommunications Plc to develop Internet and multimedia services for consumers and businesses to use without wires.

The companies will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Stockholm. Ericsson will give more financial details then, said Lars Staalberg, a company spokesman.

Ericsson shares fell 7.5 kronor to 482 before they were suspended on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. Trading will resume at 2 p.m.
