"This isn't a TLABs type scenario where there are fat product margins."

PaperChase and Ken,
Ironically, I believe, PaperChase did bring up a competitor to ANTC's Cornerstone. It's Tellabs Cablespan product. But the real irony lies in the fact that TLAB can't make any money on that product! It was talked about in depth during their last CC.

And there is ADC Telecommunications Homeworx product. ADCT hardly mentioned this in their last CC. But they are deploying this product into the Cox cable plant. Of course they said they plan to get a lot of T's upgrade business, but rarely does a competitor not say this.

My feeling is it's just that usual banter that goes on between a supplier and a customer who is at the 50% plus level.

As far as the margins go, it's because(if I have this right), ANTC is pulling product off the shelf that they purchase from Arris Interactive. My memory is failing me again, but I think this is correct. Or is it the Telewire division pulling margins down? Denver I read in depth everything you post, but I couldn't find my reference to the margin comments you had.

Anyway, of course they can't expect high margins from products in this category. But they make it up with LOTS of volume.
