Ken,

I understand your son's concern. I used to be really worried to when I was in junior high about college. But now that I am in college now, I can look back and say I was too worried. High school is where it all counts. He seems to have an impressive record already with his extracurricular activities, and he should stick to it in high school. I attend Georgetown University right now, so I guess I can give you an idea of Stanford's expectations. All of this advice is in regards to high school, so he has another year before worrying too much. Your son should try to maintain close to a straight A (including A-) record, in high school that is. He should have a rigorous course load, taking advantage of AP courses if his school offers them. High test scores and extracurricular activities are also good. My best advice is for your son to wait until high school starts and then see a college counselor, but he is on the right path with his hard work ethic.

Eric
