I agree on the notion of driving standards in the market rather than through a "standards body". Standards that work are a formalization of what everyone is doing anyway, designed to provide better interoperability and maintain coherence. SUNW clearly has enough momentum and mindshare in this space to set the standards. They need to drive hard to establish real products that work.

If they do that successfully, the market, and the standards bodies, will follow. If they do not, having a standard for something that no one is actually using will be less than useless.
