MindSpring Signs GoTo.com as Its Default Search Provider
Exclusive Deal Places GoTo.com on MindSpring's Top Web Sites
PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1999--Leading national Internet Service Provider MindSpring Enterprises Inc. (Nasdaq: MSPG) and GoTo.com (Nasdaq: GOTO) today announced a one-year agreement that makes GoTo.com the default search engine on MindSpring's most popular Web properties, including MindSpring's homepages, MindSpring's Internet access software, and MindSpring's customized browser.
MindSpring's 1.3 million members will soon be able to find the products, services and information they need quickly and easily by accessing GoTo.com's relevant search results. Combined with GoTo's recently announced deal with EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK), this agreement will make GoTo the default search provider for what will be the second largest Internet Service Provider (ISP), upon completion of the EarthLink/MindSpring merger.
Consumers can currently access GoTo's relevant search results at both its Web site and approximately 120,000 locations across the Internet, through its Search Syndication Network(TM).
"The search tool is a significant feature of our Internet service, so teaming up with GoTo.com is a great advantage for us," said Erika Jolly, vice president of consumer access productions, MindSpring Enterprises. "We want our members to have the easiest, fastest, and most relevant search experience possible and GoTo.com provides a logical and intuitive search engine that delivers great search results."
"We are thrilled to partner with MindSpring," said Hannah Hotchkiss, vice president of consumer and affiliate marketing, GoTo.com. "As the Internet marketplace becomes more layered and complex, partnerships like this one are critical in helping the Web user get the most from their starting point on the Web -- their ISP. There's a real potential in this agreement for us to deliver on our consumer promise -- we put great search, and the best results, right smack in front of you."
About GoTo.com
GoTo.com operates an online marketplace that introduces consumers and advertisers. Consumers conduct searches using the GoTo.com search service at its Web site and at approximately 120,000 locations across the Internet where GoTo.com can be accessed through its Search Syndication Network(TM). Advertisers bid in an ongoing auction for priority placement in the search results with the highest bidder's site appearing first in the results.
Each advertiser pays GoTo.com the amount of its bid whenever a consumer clicks on an advertiser's listing in the search results. This dynamic, together with GoTo.com's streamlined search method, improves a consumer's ability to quickly and easily find relevant Web sites providing information, products and services.
Moreover, GoTo.com ranked ahead of Yahoo!, Excite, Lycos and the Go Network in the category "frequency of finding information sought every time" in an independent online consumer survey recently conducted in the summer of 1999 by NPD Online Research. GoTo.com ended the third quarter of 1999 having made more than 54,000,000 introductions between consumers and advertisers, and had more than 16,000 advertisers in its marketplace.
GoTo.com is located in Pasadena and can be found online at goto.com.
