<<Tuesday was also a busy day for IPOs that are pricing later this week.
Four pending new issues increased the terms of their expected pricings
later in the week. In what has to be a record, FreeMarkets
(Nasdaq:FMKT), a provider of auction-based software and services that
facilitates business-to-business e-commerce, increased its pricing
range by over 170% from $14-$16 to $40-$42. If FreeMarkets were to
price at the top of the range at $42, that would represent an
additional $93.6 million in capital raised relative to the top of the
previous pricing range of $16. This not only demonstrates investor's
appetite for business-to-business e-commerce issues, but also the
increasing willingness of underwriters to price issues at previously
unheard of levels. Over the past year, millions of dollars have been
left on the table because of conservatively priced issues. FreeMarkets
is a great company in a hot industry, so we will have to wait and see
if this phenomenon is limited to FreeMarkets only.>>
